How to Buy Through BuyMyGarage

How buying a garage, MOT centre or automotive business through BuyMyGarage works: who we introduce, what we ask of buyers, and how confidential information is released.

The buying process, step by step

  1. 1

Tell us what you're looking for

Share your acquisition criteria, automotive experience, budget and preferred geography.

  2. 2

    We assess fit

We review your background and acquisition plans against the opportunities we are handling.

  3. 3

    Qualification and NDA

Suitable buyers may be asked to complete an NDA and provide further information about funding and plans.

  4. 4

    Selective information release

Confidential information is released in stages, and only where appropriate for the seller.

  5. 5

    Introduction

Where there is a genuine fit, we may arrange an introduction to the seller.

  • Submitting an enquiry does not guarantee access to confidential information or an introduction.
  • Not every opportunity we handle is publicly promoted.
  • BuyMyGarage and the seller retain discretion over information release and introductions.

A trade-sale specialist

BuyMyGarage specialises in trade and strategic sales of UK independent automotive businesses: garages, MOT centres, tyre and fast-fit operations, recovery businesses and specialist workshops. We research buyers who can genuinely take on a business and control introductions, rather than advertising to anyone who asks.

Many sellers prefer an experienced automotive operator. An owner who has built a customer base, a team of technicians and a DVSA-approved MOT bay over decades usually wants confidence that the next owner can keep the workshop running, retain staff and protect local reputation.

First-time buyers are welcome, with more qualification

First-time buyers are not automatically excluded. If you do not currently own or operate an automotive business, we will usually ask for more information before releasing confidential material: your relevant experience, how you plan to run the workshop day to day, who will hold MOT tester or manager roles, and how the purchase is funded.

Why buyer experience matters

Value in an independent garage often sits with the people: the owner's relationships, the technicians' skills and the reputation for honest work. Sellers and their advisers judge whether a buyer can keep technicians, maintain MOT authorisation and hold on to fleet or trade accounts through the handover.

Acquisition readiness and funding

Before we discuss a confidential opportunity we need a realistic view of your budget and funding position: cash, bank or asset finance, investor backing or a combination. Lenders typically review accounts, premises tenure and owner dependence, so knowing your funding route early saves time for everyone.

Confidentiality, NDA and staged information release

Most sellers have not told staff, customers or suppliers that they are selling. Suitable buyers are normally asked to sign an NDA and accept our enquiry process before confidential details are shared. Information is then released in stages: first a fuller summary, later detailed financials, premises and lease information, and only then the seller's identity.

Signing an NDA does not automatically entitle a buyer to information. BuyMyGarage and the seller decide what is released, to whom and when.

Seller introductions

Where your experience, funding and plans fit a business, and the seller agrees, we arrange an introduction and usually a discreet visit outside normal working hours so the workshop team is not unsettled.

Due diligence and completing an acquisition

After heads of terms, you and your advisers verify accounts, VAT and payroll, the lease or freehold position, equipment condition, MOT bay authorisation and any environmental issues such as fuel tanks or waste oil storage. Completion follows legal agreement on the sale contract, transfer of the lease or property and a handover plan for staff, customers and suppliers.
